Any act of physical or mental abuse (including bullying and exclusion) targeted at another student (fresher or otherwise) on the ground of color, race, religion, caste, ethnicity, gender (including transgender), sexual orientation, appearance, nationality, regional origins, linguistic identity, place of birth, place of residence or economic background. ADMINISTRATIVE ACTION IN THE EVENT OF RAGGING:

IGCAS considers Ragging as a serious issue against the institution’s morale and code of conduct and shall punish a student found guilty of ragging after following the procedure and in the manner prescribed here in under:

The Anti-Ragging Committee of the institution shall take an appropriate decision, in regard to punishment or otherwise, depending on the facts of each incident of ragging and the nature and gravity of the incident of ragging established in the recommendations of the Anti-Ragging Squad.

The Anti-Ragging Committee may, depending on the nature and gravity of the guilt established by the Anti-Ragging Cell, award, to those found guilty, one or more of the following punishments, namely;

  • Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.
  • Withholding/withdrawing scholarship/fellowship and other benefits.
  • Debarring from appearing in any test/ examination or other evaluation processes.
  • Withholding the results.
  • Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national, or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.
  • Suspension/ expulsion from the hostel.
  • Cancellation of admission.
  • Rustication from the institution for periods ranging from one to four semesters.
  • Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specified period. Provided that where the persons committing or abetting the act of ragging are not identified, the institution shall resort to collective punishment

Antiragging Cell Report

The College has Constituted the Anti Ragging Committee in The year 20-21. The following instructions are framed to prevent the menace of ragging and foster healthy interpersonal relations among students in the campus of Indira Gandhi college of Arts and Science. Ragging is strictly forbidden in or outside the college campus. All students shall familiarize themselves with rules/regulations/guidelines on code of conduct, anti-ragging measures and discipline in the College. All ‘new comers’ should attend awareness sessions organized for them from time to time by the college staff.

Objectives
  • To aware the students of dehumanizing effect of ragging inherent in its perversity.
  • To keep a continuous watch and vigil over ragging so as to prevent its occurrence and  recurrence.
  • To promptly and stringently deal with the incidents of ragging brought to our notice.
Functions of Committee
  • To consider the complaints received from the students and conduct enquiry and submit  report to the Anti- Ragging Committee along with punishment recommended for the offenders
  • Oversee the procedure of obtaining undertaking from the students in accordance with the  provisions;
  • Conduct workshops against ragging menace and orient the students;
  • To provide students the information pertaining to contact address and telephone numbers  of the person(s) identified to receive complaints/distress calls;
  • To create awareness among the students about Anti ragging.
  • To take all necessary measures for prevention of Ragging inside the Campus/ Hostels.

To prevent the menace of ragging and Maintain healthy interpersonal relations among students in the college campus of Indira Gandhi College of Arts and Science. Ragging is strictly forbidden in or outside the college campus. For this Purpose the Anti-Ragging Committee has been actively functioning .The committee include Principal, Sub inspector of Police, Various Department heads and NSS programme officer. All are actively take efforts to maintain the calm and quiet environment in college campus. In the academic year 2020-21 all the college student  specially freshers were counseled by college principal  and give the information about anti ragging .All the students filled their anti-ragging affidavit form and submitted it to the college office in the year. There were not happened any minor ragging cases in the campus.

REPORT ON THE ANTI RAGGING AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

This year’s Anti-ragging awareness campaign of the Indira Gandhi College of Arts and Science organized by the Anti-ragging Cell in association with IQAC, commenced with the inaugural function at the seminar hall on 14.03.2024. The campaign was inaugurated by Dr.Viji K Ramakrishnan(Principal). Hon’ble  Adv. Ahammed Thasleem C T handled the session. He gave an enlightening session on Anti-ragging and Anti-drug laws and spoke on the consequences that ragging can have on the career of the students. He also highlighted the legislative history of the anti-ragging laws. He also delivered an informative lecture on the various Anti ragging laws in addition to the UGC Regulations on anti-ragging highlighting the penal provisions & other sanctions that would ensue as regards the erring students. IQAC Co-ordinator Mr.Sajid A M, various Department heads and faculty advisors from various departments were present on the occasion. As part of the Anti-Ragging campaign, measures were taken for strict compliance of the UGC regulations on Anti-ragging in the various departments of  the campus.
